Intent

Our Art and Design Curriculum aims to provide our young artists with an opportunity to demonstrate imagination and creative flair whilst developing a wide range of knowledge and skills.  This will enable them to experiment and create their own pieces of art, craft and designs using a wide range of media.

Our learners will be given opportunities to develop a passion and appreciation of art.  The children reflect on pieces of art from different historical movements and are provided with opportunities to freely voice their thoughts and opinions.

Our aim is to allow all of our children to express and develop their ideas and emotions. This opportunity to express themselves through art will help them to gain the capacity of memory, attention and concentration.  They will develop their social skills and their self-esteem.

As a school, we are actively involved in art and design projects in our local area.  This provides the children with opportunities to be inspired and create artwork with experienced artists.

The Beech Hill curriculum is designed to develop a passion for learning. Our bespoke, broad and balanced curriculum – addressing academic and social needs - fosters progress, achievement and ambition for all children, recognising and celebrating success in everyone.

Our aims are for all pupils to:

  • Develop children’s skill and level in observational drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
  • Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
  • For children to demonstrate a good understanding of the colour theory they have learnt in both the current and previous year groups.
  • For children to articulate the process of creating their art and considerations of line, colour, technique that they are applying to their work.
  • To reinforce 3D art and textile skills through cross-curricular application. To know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
  • Enable children to present their work independently in their art books. Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
