Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium
Firstly, a big thank you to all our parents and carers who apply for Pupil Premium funding. At Beech Hill, we can use this money in all sorts of ways to improve learning for all, as well as targeting it to support those children who are eligible.
What is it?
Pupil Premium funding is the extra funding that is provided to schools to increase the attainment of Pupil Premium children and close the gap between them and non-Pupil Premium pupils.
How much do we receive?
Beech Hill Primary School receives £1,515 per Pupil Premium child, which has risen from £1,480 for the previous year. Based on the Autumn 2025 census this equates to £367,010 for the 2025/2026 academic year. This is an increase of £19,210 from the previous year and equates to twelve more Pupil Premium pupils than the same time last year.
At Beech Hill, Pupil Premium children currently make up over 30% of the school population – the national average for all schools was 25.7% for 2024-2025, up just under 1% from the previous year.
What is our aim?
At Beech Hill Primary School, we are dedicated to ensuring that all pupils, including those that are Pupil Premium, are provided with the best education possible. This will help them fulfil their academic potential and access a wider range of life experiences, which they otherwise may not have access to.
Who is entitled to Pupil Premium funding?
The amount of funding is based on the number of pupils who:
- Currently qualify for Free School Meals (FSM).
- Received Free School Meals previously (in the past six years) but no longer do (known as EVER6 pupils).
- Have been in the care system for more than six months (LAC).
- Have a parent (or parents) who is (are) serving in the regular armed forces.
How do we decide what to spend it on?
As recommended by the E.E.F (Education Endowment Foundation), we spend Pupil Premium funding in two ways. The first are strategies that benefit all pupils, such as improving the quality of teaching and learning. The second way are strategies to overcome specific challenges / barriers that Pupil Premium children face and removing these barriers to learning. The funding allocation varies on an annual basis: we take an individual and differentiated approach to each pupil and groups of pupils, in order to ensure that their individual, and group needs are addressed.
What are some of the ways we support our Pupil Premium pupils?
Our Pupil Premium Strategy (PPS) details our three main strategies as recommended by the E.E.F: quality-first teaching, targeted support and bespoke approaches. We have adopted a range of strategies and initiatives to support both Pupil Premium pupils’ academic attainment and social development through life experiences.; these include targeted support in class; access to after school clubs and subsidised school trips. Our range of strategies are evaluated regularly and updated to ensure that they are effective and have an impact on the groups of pupils they focus on.
How is the impact of our Pupil Premium spending measured?
The educational attainment and progress of each child at Beech Hill Primary School is tracked and evaluated on a termly basis. Further support is swiftly provided where necessary, while targeted interventions are utilised in order to guarantee that eligible pupils are able to benefit from the funding.
In order to ensure that our Pupil Premium funding targets are met, we maintain a culture of accountability that holds teaching, support and management staff responsible for the progress of Pupil Premium pupils across the curriculum.
Is my child entitled to Pupil Premium funding?
If your child is in nursery, reception, year 1 or year 2, they may also meet the criteria for Free School Meals, despite receiving school meals free of charge. If your child is in years 3, 4, 5 or 6, you will need to apply if you meet the criteria for them to receive free school meals.
In either case, this means that the school may be entitled to Pupil Premium funding for your child and receive additional help.
If you believe that they may be entitled to Free School Meals, please do not hesitate to talk to a member of staff, who will be happy to provide more information. To determine if your child is eligible for Free School Meals, which means Beech Hill receives additional funding, please complete an application form, which is available at our main reception, our family workers are able to support you making this application.
