Science Vision Statement
At Beech Hill, our vision is to instil a real love of learning, extending beyond the school
gates and into each child’s life. We expect learning opportunities for all subjects,
including science, to be irresistible and inclusive. We believe that being educators is
a privilege and we want to ensure that every child is prepared to meet life’s challenges.
We place children at the centre of what we do. Our shared vision is a school in which
children are safe, valued, supported to learn independently, and able to think for
themselves.
Our pupils have access to quality first teaching and a range of creative, exciting and
enriching first-hand experiences, both within the school day and beyond. Adopting a
growth mindset approach, our children are confident in their ability and use their
mistakes as opportunities to learn. Our ‘Wow Factors’ both complement and enhance
children’s learning by making science real.
In science, this vision is continued by ensuring children are enabled to explore and
discover the world around them. This is achieved by having an exciting curriculum
which fosters hands-on experiences and pupils’ natural curiosity.
Our carefully designed curriculum incorporates a language-rich approach to learning:
we expose children to key scientific vocabulary which is progressive. A progressive
curriculum provides purposeful opportunities for interleaving and interweaving, thus
ensuring that children can progress whilst consolidating prior learning.
We expect that our teachers and staff are well equipped with an up-to-date subject
knowledge and a range of teaching approaches and scientific strategies that will both
engage and challenge pupils’ understanding.
We aim for the children in our school today to be the young scientists of tomorrow.
